It’s War! Volcano Plenty vs Life Saber Vaporizer

These are two incredibly unique vaporizers; in a sense they are portable because they are handheld.  But on the other hand they both need to be plugged in order to function.  You can’t exactly walk down the street while you are vaping with these two units.  The fact that they need to be plugged in is also what makes them such formidable and heavy hitting vaporizers.  They are definitely two of the most powerful handheld weed vapes out there and the reason we are comparing them against each other.  Lets start with the Volcano Plenty then move onto the Life Saber.

Volcano Plenty Vaporizer

The Plenty is made by the German powerhouse Storz & Bickel and as you have probably deduced by the name are also the manufacturers of the wildly successful Volcano Vaporizer.  The first thing you will notice about the Plenty is its appearance, an industrial approach to design makes this vape look more like a power tool than a vaporizer.  The stainless steel cooling coil delivers clean vapor at a nice temperature that won’t leaving you coughing.  The stainless steel cooling coil is adjustable so you can get comfortable, relax and vape in style.  The controls are simple to use and the temperature gauge is easy to read and dial in.  We found it to be extremely accurate and easy to adjust.  The available temperature range is 266°F to 395°F which is a more than acceptable in our opinion.

The Plenty vaporizer comes with a three year warranty so you won’t have to worry about it breaking down anytime soon.  It weighs approximately 1.5 pounds which is slightly on the heavy side but not too overbearing.  To get started vaping with the plenty make sure your herbs are finely ground.  We really like the larger herb chamber, the wide area allows for quite a bit of material to loaded at once.  To set the temperature rotate the orange wheel towards the front of the device.  Once you have your desired temperature selected click the button once on the handle and the device will begin to heat up.  Remember that you do not need to continuously hold the button down, one simple click will start the heating process.  When the device begins to cool just click once more to restart the process.

We found the heat setting 6-6.5 is best for vaping weed while a lower setting of 5.5-6 is preferable for wax and concentrates.  The Plenty vaporizer comes with an automatic shut off feature so you don’t have to worry about the unit running after your session has finished.  If you are going to to be vaping wax you will need to use the liquid pads that comes with the unit.  If you are vaping oils be careful not to put more than a few drops, too much with clog the pad and make it very difficult to draw any vapor.

The Plenty vaporizer sells for $349.00 which is pretty expensive when compared to the Life Saber at just $189.00. The LSV however does not provide the ability to vape concentrates.  Now lets move onto the Life Saber Vaporizer.

Life Saber Vaporizer

7th Floor makers of the Silver Surfer and Da Buddha hit a real home run here.  If you know anything about those other two vaporizer you know how much time and effort they put into creating quality vapes.  The LSV (Life Saber Vaporizer) is no different in this regard.  It is made out of anodized aluminum and is consequently incredibly durable.  It comes in five different colors as well, you can get it in either Black, Red, Purple, Blue or classic Silver.  The LSV comes with a whopping 10ft power cord which is great for maneuvering around the house and sharing the vape with your friends.  The Pyrex transfer wand is solid and wont break or crack from overheating, we dinged it a few times with zero consequence.  It comes with a padded travel bag as well making it easy to take with you when you are switching locations.  When you order the vape you have the option of adding a custom hand blown glass knob similar to what comes with the SSV (Silver Surfer Vaporizer).

Whats great about the LSV is its versatility, you can use it by it self as it was meant originally meant to be used but you can also fit it to a water pipe.  There are four different water pipe adapters available to choose from.  14mm short or tall adapter and 19mm short or tall water pipe adapter, they sell for about $22 and are well worth money.  The little known third mode of use isn’t exactly vaping but its fun to try if you can’t find your lighter.  Remove the heating cover and expose the ceramic heating element, then hold the glowing hot rod a couple inches away to heat your weed in a glass pipe or bong.  Be careful when doing this though as it is not recommend for inexperienced users. Done properly your herb should not ignite.

Vaping with the LSV is pretty damn simple, grind some herbs and load them into the transfer wand.  Set the dial to around 2:00 o’clock and wait about 60 seconds, you will see the heating element begin to glow hot.  Once you start to see some vapor trickle into the wand begin vaping.  With this vape you want to draw a bit faster than you normally would with other vaporizers.  Since the distance from heating element to the pot is farther than most other vapes you want to move the hot air quickly before it has time to cool.  After just a few session you will be ripping huge clouds of vapor using the LSV, some of the biggest you have ever seen.  Because the LSV is really that powerful the vapor can get pretty hot and that’s why we recommend using it with a water pipe.  The results will unquestionably leave you impressed.

Overall these vaporizers are pretty comparable performance wise and neither of them will leaving you wanting.  The Plenty’s ability to vape concentrates gives it a slight edge while the LSV’s ability to attach to water pipe is its own advantage.  At the end of the day you are left with the price tag and the fact that the Life Saber Vaporizer is $160.00 less really tips the scale in it’s favor.  If you have the money to spend you will in no way be disappointed with the Volcano Plenty but for those of us on a budget the Life Saber just makes more sense.  You can get the LSV and one of 7th Floors new wax pens for cheaper than you can get the Plenty.  Thanks for reading and let us know what vapes you want to see reviewed next in the comments below.

I think I like the Life Saber Vaporizer better than the Plenty but I only got to use the Plenty for one session. I never really got to know it, plus I own an LSV so I have pretty much mastered it by now and can get HUGE rips every single time. I wish they would make some sort of battery pack for the LSV so I could walk around outside and vape like a boss.

+1 here, I have actually tried and I think the Life Saber is way more versatile. You can hook up to a water pipe super easy and once you do that there is really no contest here. If you take away the water pipe feature they are still pretty close but the Plenty is kind of bulky and bit of a process to vape with.
